This is a busy week

The week after Homecoming can always be an unpredictable week. This week many students are spending most of their time catching up in certain classes. However, in one of my favorite classes, chemistry, we have spent most of our time learning about electron orbitals in atoms. Another enjoyable class is English 10, taught by Ms. Patton. In this class we have been learning about the different forms of poetry and how to analyze each of them.

The students are also excited about the basketball games that occur each week. At these games, the crowd is almost always involved and many of the games have special themed nights for which the students may dress. The crowd, cheerleaders, and band cheer on and encourage the players during each of the games.

While everyone enjoys their time at school, many are looking forward to the half day break for parent/teacher conferences this Thursday and the student holiday for the faculty in-service on Friday.

An Exciting Week

This past week has been an extra blessing to all the students at SBEC. I know I enjoyed getting out of school early on Monday because of the weather conditions. And instead of a snow day, we got an "ice day" on Tuesday. It's definitely not as much fun since there is no snow to play in, but I'm sure everyone enjoyed the break from school.

The students in the drama department have been equally excited and busy with all of our practices for Singin' in the Rain, the school’s spring musical. We have been tapping our feet off, learning the choreography for many songs. We also have a couple of new spotlights and were able to start constructing the set this past weekend. It's going to be a spectacular show!

Because this is Basketball Homecoming Week, we will have so much fun and get to dress up each day. I'm especially excited about wearing some comfy pajamas to school.

Basketball Homecoming Week

As a senior this year at SBEC, it is hard to believe we have just a few short months until graduation! One of the last big celebrations we will experience is basketball homecoming week which begins next Tuesday.

Tuesday is “Senior Dress up Day,” a day set aside for the senior class to show their unity. This is followed by “Pajama Day” on Wednesday (this makes it really hard to stay awake in class!). Thursday is “Holiday Day,” where everyone can dress up as Easter bunnies, valentines, Christmas trees, or even as a Thanksgiving turkey! Finally, Friday is “School Spirit Wear Day” which will end with games (you better watch, Mrs. J!) and a pep-rally as we cheer our basketball team on to victory! The Basketball Homecoming game is Friday night and the Homecoming Queen will be announced during half-time.

I hope everyone participates in all the fun during homecoming week, and I pray that all we do will honor the Lord (Colossians 3:17). Go Trojans!

First Week Back from Christmas Break

Well the students of SBEC are back from Christmas break, which can be just as stressful as exam week. Let’s be honest, I don't believe most of us were studying math or history over our break, so getting back into our regular routine can be tough. I know it is for me; I almost forgot about this blog post.

But it's still good to be back at school and to be with friends we didn't see over the holidays. Frankly, it may be good for us to wake up before noon for a change.

However, the daily school assignments just seem to pile up and we may feel overwhelmed during this first week back. Further, with extracurricular activities like basketball or the spring play, the feeling could intensify. What I have learned about dealing with this kind of pressure is just to take a deep breath. You should try it; it feels good. Just breathe and realize you'll get back in gear. If that doesn't help, here's a quote from this book I've been reading. It states, "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself." (Matthew 6:34 NIV) The author is amazing, let me tell you…
