This Week at SBEC

This week has been a GREAT week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monday night our basketball team played Central Baptist Academy in our home gym and won!!!

Since our school has been quite busy lately, let me describe my Tuesday classes. We talked politics in Social Studies class and practiced playing Christmas music in band. Next week our junior high band will march through the school and play Deck the Halls for the elementary students. In Bible class we learned about God and his plan of redemption, which was a great lesson. Later in science class, we learned about the Apollo mission. In P.E. class we played Water Polo, in math we checked homework and learned new concepts, and in English class we studied grammar.

That's a normal day for a 7th grade student at SBEC.

This Week at SBEC

Through the eyes of an SBEC student, this week was full of excitement.  Our football team, the band, the cheerleaders, and the students had the privilege of riding buses to Knoxville, Tennessee to play the Spartans at Webb High School in the quarter finals of the state playoffs.  Although we didn’t win, it was a wonderful opportunity to bond with friends.

SBEC is challenging academically but thankfully we have wonderful teachers to help us. Ms. Holbrook, my English teacher, has us working on a research paper based on the book, “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder.  Ms. Holbrook is always willing to help and guide you.  She makes a great connection with her students and fellow teachers.  She is a strong example of a follower of Christ.  I’m blessed to have such wonderful teachers as Ms. Holbrook to look up to.

Since my older sister and brother have graduated from SBEC, I have had the opportunity to appreciate all that SBEC offers. Being a student ambassador, varsity cheerleader, member of the National Thespian Society, secretary of the high school choir, and a member of the St. Jude Club, I can personally say there are many growing experiences for me. In the St. Jude Club, we made an assortment of hats for the kids at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to enjoy and wear. We all had the opportunity to work together and give to others in need.

Basketball season is just around the corner and we are prepared to cheer our teams on.  I’m looking forward to a winning season for both the girls & boys teams.

Wrapping up the week I would just like to say the spiritual as well as education growth is a focus of the school every day.  My application of daily life is reinforced with spiritual guidance through each class and activity.  I’m extremely blessed to have the opportunity to attend such a well rounded, Christian-based school. Therefore, I want to thank God, my parents, and the staff at SBEC.

This Week at SBEC

This week at SBEC was super fun! It was our annual Spiritual Emphasis Week, a favorite week of mine! Pastor Ernie Frey of Central Church, Collierville, Tennessee spoke to everyone in grades 7-12 about dreams and how God gave Joseph a dream that changed his life. You could really see the amazing work that God was doing in the lives of some students. Pastor Ernie's teaching really inspired a lot of people to find a dream and make it happen, no matter what stood in the way. I really enjoyed another great Spiritual Emphasis Week this year!

SBEC also had the first play-off game at home and pep rally this week. We won the game against Zion Christian Academy with a score of 48-7 and travel to Knoxville, Tennessee on Friday to take on the Spartans of the Webb School of Knoxville. Everyone is so excited! The band and cheerleaders will be riding a bus to Knoxville. There is even going to be a spirit bus for any student and parent to ride to and from the game.

SBEC's football season has really been amazing this year. All of the fans are so involved with the team and players and make the games really fun to be at! The theme for this year is "All In", and everyone really is engaged in all of the school's sports and activities.

I have to say that all of the teachers here are very generous and caring. You can really tell they love all of the students and enjoy their job. That is one thing that helps make the SBEC student life astounding!

This Week at SBEC

This week was amazing! In Bible we are learning about other world cultures and my teacher, Coach Duggin, makes it so interesting. Coach Duggin really takes the time to connect with his students and I learn so much in his class. Also, Geometry was challenging this week but we were allowed to work in groups so everyone helped each other. On the sports side, being in the band and on the cheer squad this week was filled with excitement! On Friday, we had a home game and a pep rally. The cheer squad worked hard all week to have an amazing pep rally. Later that evening, the football team won their last regular season game and qualified for the state football playoffs.

The most exciting event of the week was the BANDMASTERS competition at the Liberty Bowl Stadium!! Our band director, Mr. Berryhill, is remarkable at what he does. We came in tenth out of 37 bands and won most outstanding percussion. Immediately after we finished our performance and walked off the field, the band members cheered and laughed because we performed so well at the competition. It was such an incredible feeling! Performing at the Liberty Bowl Stadium at night with so many fans was mind blowing!

The best part about the band is not the exciting pep band days, or the performance day, but the family atmosphere. As a freshman I was nervous about being in the band with all of the older students, but they welcomed me and made all the freshmen feel a special part of the band. They treated us as family. I can’t wait till next week! It’s spiritual emphasis week; my favorite week here at SBEC.
