Last Week at SBEC

Wow! Another great week at SBEC!

Even though everyone was out of school on Monday, the students involved with the spring musical, Oklahoma!, were busy at work practicing to put on a spectacular show! Director Judy Defrehn puts her all not only into the shows, but also into her students as well. I know that I wouldn’t be the same without her support and love that she always shows.

Not only has our drama department been stirring this week, but our SBEC concert band has been working hard preparing for their band performances. Luckily I get to say that I am a part of our wonderful band program, and that it has definitely become a huge part of my life! Mr. Michael Berryhill, our amazing band director, passed out three newish pieces to us and I must say we sound pretty awesome! One of my favorite things about band is how we are like one big family. I love every member of this program literally like they were my own brother or sister. However, nothing we do could be accomplished without the support, patience, and love we are shown daily by Mr. Berryhill. No matter what he might have on his plate, he would drop it immediately if any of us were in need of him or just needed to talk. I’m so thankful God placed me in such a loving environment like SBEC’s band.

In our chemistry class on Wednesday and Thursday we looked at incandescent and fluorescent light through diffraction grating and a spectrometer. By looking through the diffraction grating, white light was split into individual colors, causing the most beautiful picture I’ve ever seen. As an example, see the attached picture of hallway light seen through a spectrometer. Ms. Tammy Skinner, our chemistry teacher, also took us outside to use a spectrometer to analyze sunlight and sunlight reflecting from a white car. It was absolutely amazing and so much fun!

In Home Missions class we started reading David Platt’s book, Radical. It is the most incredible book! It really gets you thinking on some things that we normally try not to think about. We also are trying to decide on the logo for our home mission t-shirts, which is super difficult to agree on!

On Friday I attended our basketball games. Congrats to the girls for their win. I know the student section had an awesome time hanging out and enjoying the games!

So these were pretty much the highlights of my week. I’m super happy and blessed to be able to attend a Christian school allowing me to openly pray and speak about my Lord and Savior out loud! Thanks to the SBEC faculty for putting up with us every day! We love you!

This Week at SBEC

My week at SBEC was packed! One unfamiliar with SBEC may consider this a bad thing, but the opposite couldn’t be truer!

I am a part of the award-winning SBEC Marching Band, and it consumes a large portion of my time here. I always enjoy arriving at the band hall and seeing Mr. Michael Berryhill, our band director, already encouraging each member by name to do his or her best for the day. I had Percussion Ensemble practice on Monday and Thursday. This is my first year in this part of our band program. I play the vibraphone and I am in love with it! Mr. James Tomlinson, the percussion director, heads this group.

Lastly, I played in the Trojan basketball game with the pep band on Monday and Saturday. The music we play is so fun. We help create the excitement at the ballgames, especially when the student section joins us.

This Week at SBEC

This week at SBEC was fantastic. We started rehearsals for our school play Oklahoma!. Being a thespian here at SBEC, theater is a part of my life. Also, being a senior this year our theater teacher, Ms. Defrehn, is not only my drama teacher but also my English teacher. She is an amazing director!

Also, our basketball season is in full swing! Our team is so talented and unified. During our basketball games here at SBEC the student section is on fire for our team.

Our basketball Homecoming is next week. I personally am excited because I am on the homecoming court. I can not wait to be able to dress up and go on the court on Saturday, January 28.
