Theatre and Basketball Success

This week is a very busy week at SBEC! One of the main events this week is our spring musical, Singin' in the Rain. I am the student director of this production and so excited to see the response from the other students, parents, and teachers about the show. So far, we have received great reviews from most everyone. We have been rehearsing this play for about three months. I am very grateful for the theatre program at SBEC because it allows me to spend time with my friends and get to know people who may not have been my friend otherwise.

There are more ways to be involved with SBEC other than the theatre program. You can be involved in sports such as basketball. Our varsity girls basketball team is playing in a state semi-final game this Friday! I am so impressed with how hard those girls have worked for this opportunity. To support the team, the administration rented a charter bus to take students to Nashville, TN for the game. I am thankful for a school that supports our students and recognizes our accomplishments.

From a Senior

As a senior at SBEC I have been reading A Tale of Two Cities in my British Literature class. In my Bachelorette Living class we recently went on a field trip during class time to get fabric to make laundry bags we can use in college next year. Many of my classmates have been busy practicing for the musical, Singin’ in the Rain, which I am looking forward to attending next week. Since we got back from the three day holiday for President’s Day, the tickets have gone on sale for the musical, and we have been settling back into business as usual in our classes. In my psychology class we have begun studying personal development, beginning with infancy. Today I learned when we will make the senior video, which is an exciting part of being a senior at SBEC. Another exciting part is getting to eat lunch at a special outside seating arrangement for seniors. Unfortunately, it’s a little cold for me right now but some of the guys still seem to enjoy it. So far, I have had a really fun senior year, but I’m still a little sad about leaving high school.

Another Busy Week

The occasional long weekend at SBEC can be very beneficial to the psyche of the student. This past week we enjoyed a half day on Thursday for parent/teacher conferences and had no school on Friday due to faculty in-service. Many of the English 12 students are scrambling to complete their regimen of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. In another of my classes, Biotech, we are learning about various diseases and bacteria.
Basketball season is winding down, just in time for the baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, and track seasons to begin. For the third consecutive year, I will compete in pole vaulting for SBEC, and am very excited for the spring.
Studying should continue as planned this week, as there are several large tests looming at the end of the week.
