Senior Football Players are Special

I am a senior at Northpoint Christian School. As I was thinking about what to write for this blog, I kept seeing posts on Twitter and Facebook about how this Friday night’s football game will be the last for our senior guys. Right then, I knew exactly what I wanted to write.
I want to brag on the 2013-2014 senior football players. I have watched the majority of this group of guys play football together since the 5th grade. I have seen their struggles, successes, and everything in between, and I am so pleased to say that through it all they have stuck together. Most people would look at football, along with many of the other sports, as just extracurricular activities and something fun to do on the weekends. For these boys, it is about something far more important. Their teammates are their family and football is how they are all united together. I can’t even begin to describe how proud I am of our senior football players. They have gone through so many struggles, including having a new coach almost every year, but their goal of winning has never changed and neither does their motivation to reach it.
Our football program not only impacts their playing ability, but also impacts their lives in several aspects. I have seen these guys grow physically, emotionally, and most important spiritually over the past 8 years. People often have this stereotype of football players to be bullies with bad attitudes. While this may be true for some, it isn’t for these players. Time and time again I see them helping someone in the hallway, building their classmates up when they are down, and praying for each other. As a result, I am very proud to be a 2013-2014 senior at The Point. Nick, Samuel, Van, Trae, Corey, Dalton, James, Drew, and Terrance have represented our class and school so well. So boys, this is it. I hope you have a great senior night and play your hearts out like I know you will! Love you all so much.

It was an Eventful Week

Well, this past week was eventful for me and much of the student body. On Saturday, the varsity volleyball team ended a great season in Knoxville, Tennessee against Knoxville Webb School in a sub-state playoff match. All the seniors were sad to have played in their last volleyball game for Northpoint Christian School, but happy that it was a great, drama free year.

Speaking of drama, practices for the show Our Town began a few weeks ago, and I'm the stage manager for the show. Everything is going smoothly with the show so far, and it will turn out to be great! I'm sure of it.

In addition, several senior girls in the Bachelorette Living class are getting ready for the arrival of their egg babies. This project teaches us what goes into the care and upkeep of a child. For the project, we are to prepare a basket for the egg baby and provide some amenities for it. Then we carry the basket with the egg baby around with us everywhere for several days. Some girls have one egg baby, but others have twins or triplets.

As tests, quizzes, and homework continue and as we do additional work to complete various class projects, I can't help but feel like pulling my hair out sometimes. As a senior, I just want to politely decline and ask for my diploma already. However, preparing for classroom assignments and tests and completing assigned projects really teaches us time management and how to effectively execute tasks, which are skills we need in college and in the real world. And they say school is pointless!

A Senior Reports on Homecoming Week

On Monday September 23, the seniors had a blast dressing up for Decades Day. While waving, yelling, and welcoming everyone who drove to school in the morning along the entrance driveway, we got very excited when people honked back at us! Following our senior dress up day, all of the high school students began decorating and participating in the fun of homecoming week!

On Tuesday, everyone enjoyed coming in his or her tacky tourist wear! I’d never seen so many crazy Hawaiian shirts before in my life!! That same day, our girls and guys golf team concluded their final golf match of the year, which happened to be the State Championship. Both teams showed how hard they’d worked this year by earning fourth place overall. Also in sports, the varsity volleyball team came out victorious against IC.

Wednesday was such an exciting day! First, the student body and faculty gathered at the prayer event called “See you at the pole.” Student council chaplain Karlie Hughes, assisted by the high school grade chaplains, led the event. Soon after, high school students walked to chapel where the students were blown away by the teacher-led praise band consisting of Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Dedman, Ms. Holland, and Ms. Hopkins. After their inspiring worship, former bible teacher, Craig Daniel, spoke to the students about what it means to be an ambassador for God. His lesson was taught from 2 Corinthians 5:20. Another exciting event of the day occurred in Mrs. Jenkins’ government classes, where she allowed the students to hold debates on many current topics. To close out the day, the drama department held auditions for their fall drama, Our Town.
On Thursday, the school enjoyed seeing everyone’s costume creativity on Disney and Character day. In sports, the varsity volleyball team won their game against FACS.

Friday was HOMECOMING DAY!!! As a senior, this was quite a bittersweet day!
We had such a blast doing all the senior festivities we had waited so long to do, including riding in on the parade, yelling chants in the gym, eating in fellowship hall, and let’s not forget the confetti at the pep rally!! Although we greatly enjoyed this day, we had to say good-bye forever to participating in the pretzel game and cheering for our dominant guy cheer squad. My advice to any parent or student is to make sure you cherish moments like this!

Last week wasn’t over on Friday! Your Northpoint Christian School Marching Band traveled to Arlington High School on Saturday to compete against fourteen other bands in a major band competition. The band brought home 1st place in their class, best color-guard, best visual effect, 2nd place in their division, and 5th place overall. Go band!!
