The Last Blog of the Year

I am very honored because I am the last student blogger of the year, but I’m not sure that I’m ready to be a sophomore yet (I am getting SO old). This past week was great personally because I celebrated my birthday. The Student Council at Northpoint Christian School gives parents an option of paying for balloons to be delivered to their child on his/her birthday. So I received birthday balloons. I also received a birthday card from the president of the school. This coming week is going to be very busy for the whole school, but especially for our seniors. They have graduation ceremonies this Saturday! That’s crazy, right? As we get closer to the end of the school year, I would like to encourage all of the students, faculty, and parents to finish the year as strong as you started it, giving all the glory to God. I hope the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year is great for you and that you have a fantastic summer, too!

Home Missions Trip to Nashville

The Home Missions team had the great opportunity to spread the word of God in the city of Nashville. On the first day of the trip, we helped with the Bridge Ministry by serving food, leading people to their seats, and helping with any basic needs. We participated with the ministry in a church service under a bridge in downtown Nashville for homeless people. The next day, we served lunch to homeless men at the Nashville Rescue Center. After lunch, we went to four different areas in Nashville and prayed for all the lost people, the local churches, and the community as a whole. Then, we went to the Kirkpatrick Center and learned a skit that we performed that night at the Nashville Rescue Center. The head of On-the-Go Ministries taught us how to talk to people about our faith and lead them to Christ. We also played with kids at the Kirkpatrick Center. Later that night, we went back to the Nashville Rescue Center where Coach Corbett preached and three people gave their testimonies. We were able to stand in the back of the church and reach out to people who walked by, encourage them, and pray with them. The third day was a service project day. In the morning, we went to the Feed the Children ministry and organized boxes in their warehouse. In the afternoon, we went to the Soles for Souls warehouse to organize and pack shoes for shipment. The last day, we went back to the Soles for Souls warehouse to help unload a truck full of shoes and organize them. The Home Missions trip was definitely an amazing and eye-opening experience. It really made me more thankful for the little things in life. I definitely grew a lot in my faith and learned how much impact a simple smile on your face can make to other people.

Entry in my Journal about Senior Field Day

Today we had sign-ups for the different field day competitions for the seniors, which is awesome and reminds me of the fun field days we had throughout elementary school. Field day is scheduled for next week, and it seems so odd that the school year is almost over.

All the special senior activities have made this year so much fun. Honestly, I'll be a little sad to see this year and my time finish at Northpoint Christian School. However, I can't wait for graduation and college, and to begin life on my own. It is a bit scary, but I know high school has prepared me enough. I can't wait to see what field day competitions my friends signed up for, so I'm going to check it out now!

Eighth Grade Field Trip

In my Social Studies class, we are learning about the civil rights movement and the dedication of the civil rights activists who sacrificed their lives for African Americans’ freedoms. The whole 8th grade class took a field trip to the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN in order to learn more about the movement and experience things that we could not in the classroom. Even though we had been talking about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Little Rock Nine in class, going to the museum gave all of us a new perspective on the hard times and injustices a whole segment of people had to endure.

Along with all the information that I learned on the trip, I learned that hating people and treating others as inferior is serious business. In fact, our Social Studies teacher Mrs. Janet Watson always makes it a point to tell us that the main reason why we learn about history is so that it would not repeat itself. Because of the dedication of my school's faculty and staff, I was able to have a deep learning experience with hands-on exhibits here in my hometown. I also learned the importance of one of Jesus’ most significant commandments, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

The Baseball Season is Underway

The Trojan 2014 baseball season is in full swing and starts the first season representing Northpoint Christian School. Former All-SEC player at Ole Miss, Zach Miller, coaches the team. Coach Miller brings strong leadership to this baseball program. Check out the new scoreboard that is a compliment to the award-winning field. There are still many home games left so come to the games and support your JV and Varsity teams.

Seventh Grade Field Trip

On March 28, the seventh grader students took a one-day field trip to Nashville, Tennessee. We left at 5:45 am and got to The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson’s home) around 9:00 am. After touring The Hermitage, we went to The Opry Mills Mall to eat lunch. In the afternoon, we toured The Science Discovery Center. We had a blast and I wish that we could have stayed longer, but we had to get back on the bus to head home. We arrived at Northpoint Christian School a little after 8:00 pm.
