Northpoint Christian School Basketball

I am a freshman at Northpoint Christian School and participate in the boys varsity and junior varsity basketball teams.  I have been playing basketball since the sixth grade.  Throughout the years, I have learned many lessons through basketball.  I have learned about discipline, time management, working with others, and responsibility.  It has also kept me in shape.  Our basketball coaches know a lot about the game of basketball and coach us very well.

Tests, basketball games, and Homecoming

I'm in the seventh grade at Northpoint Christian School. We have many things going on. On Friday of this week we have two tests, which make me extremely nervous since these are our first tests of the semester. In addition to having two tests, we are playing two games against two good basketball teams this week. The outcome of these two games will have a definite effect on the conference rankings. Finally, basketball homecoming is next week! I am very excited about homecoming since it's such a fun time for the whole school. All in all, the tests, games, and homecoming make me very anxious, but also excited.

A Busy Week

This past week at Northpoint Christian School has been extremely busy. I am a senior and I'm taking honors government, honors English, honors physics, and AP Calculus. In government, we've been learning about local and state governments, especially the Mississippi state government, since we live here. In English, we read Macbeth and Hamlet and now we're writing a paper comparing and contrasting them. It is due this week. In physics, we are learning about power and efficiency. How much horsepower do you have? In calculus, we are learning about the change in slopes of a curve.

The Lord has blessed me so much with the teachers I have here. They are genuinely interested in each student. It will be bittersweet to graduate in May. I am excited to see what Christ has in store for my future, but I will miss the friends I've made and the mentors that have made such an impact on my life.

Fall Play Week

This week is a very special week for the student Thespians. Thursday through Saturday, we will be performing our fall play, Our Town. I personally am EXTREMELY excited and nervous because I am playing one of the three lead roles of the play, George Gibbs. I've made many friends during the past six weeks of rehearsals, and I can honestly say that the Thespians at Northpoint Christian School are without a doubt some of the most unique and cooperative people I've ever met. I couldn't have wished for better people with whom to perform a play, and I am really happy to be included in our school's Thespian Troupe. This is also my first play where I am appearing on the stage, so it was very nice to have other students helping me "learn the ropes" and learn to express myself. Without a doubt, God has put many truly gifted students in the theatre department at our school, and I am really thankful to work with them.

Spiritual Emphasis Week

Last week was eventful at Northpoint Christian School! But of course, Spiritual Emphasis Week always is really interesting. The main topic that stuck out to me was, “everyone matters.” No matter what you’ve done, where you are, or who you are, you are important and God has a special plan for your life. Also, the speaker led us to look at how making right, honest choices is not easy at all, but is worth the hardships if it means fulfilling the tasks that God has prepared us to do in our lives.

These lessons certainly relate to us as high school students. It was also cool that in Ms. Judy DeFrehn’s English class, we read a story with the theme that everyone matters in the large scheme of things.As a matter of fact, anything we do has some kind of impact on everyone around us. This directly ties into the chapel lesson that every choice we make has an impact on our lives now and in the future. We may regret things we have done in the past, but ultimately, our lives are shaped through our everyday experiences, good or bad.

These thoughts caused a great discussion in our English class about how our actions as a senior class will affect the legacy that we will leave at Northpoint Christian School. If we treat everyone as they are supposed to be treated, with great worth and special to God, we could leave this school with a very positive light. Further, each of us should be ready to brighten the numerous paths we will take in the future.

Marching Band Season Ended

Well the Trojan Marching Band season has finally come to an end. All of the hard practices have paid off with a satisfying victory at the Bandmasters Championship. We received a Superior (highest rating) and 2nd place in class 2A. The color guard and percussion section were awarded 1st place in class 2A. In the competition between all classes, the color guard finished in 3rd place and the percussion section finished in 4th place overall. This was a huge achievement for the size of our band.

As students, we are happy to start this week with a break on Monday for teacher in-service and dive right into Spiritual Emphasis Week beginning on Tuesday with Robert Smith, a guest speaker all the way from Oklahoma. The Northpoint Christian School basketball season also begins this week. Go Trojans!
